But how do you go about updating the Plex Client on your Now TV box as new versions are released?
The steps below outline how to do this using code from GitHub, a web-based hosting service for software development projects. As the Now TV box is actually a pared down and re-badged version of the
Roku LT [discontinued] we can make use of the latest public master of the Plex Client for Roku on GitHub.
Or for more versioning detail use this link instead.
b) Unzip the downloaded file and navigate through the roku-client-public-master folder and into the Plex subfolder.
c) Rename the manifest.template file to manifest
(i.e. no file extension).
d) Take the files and folders in the Plex directory and zip them up to a filename of your choice at the level shown in the screenshot.
e) On the Now TV remote press the following buttons in quick succession:
- Home (x3)
- Up (x2)
f) The Now TV box will now show a Developer Settings screen on your TV.
NB: If this screen doesn’t appear you may have made a typo on the remote or didn’t press the keys in quick enough succession. If which case repeat b) as necessary.
g) Make a note of the IP address shown and then select Enable Installer. Follow the process until your device reboots.
h) Go to your computer and type the IP address you wrote down in the step above into the browser bar. Pressing Enter will take you to the Development Application Installer.
i) Click Choose File and select the zip file you downloaded in the very first step. Click on Install.
If all goes well you should see the message Install Success appear within seconds.
A Plex icon should now be showing on your Now TV Box’s Home Menu and a quick look in the settings section should confirm the new version number for your installation.
